we hold these truths
to be hostages: it’s not nice to fool mother nature — you can’t anyway, fool but it’s not the hostages, it’s the homeless: 24.9 m persons last year due to climate chaos, 3x the number due to violence & amitav ghosh is right: “global inaction on climate change is by no means the result of confusion or denialism or a lack of planning: to the contrary, the maintenance of the status quo is the plan” -- which includes “an alibi for ever-greater military intrusion” into all spaces & aspects of life: including, perhaps, your neighborhood, if you’re the wrong color or culture . . . plus which: co2 emissions from arctic wildfires hits record high heatwave in . . . well, practically everywhere in n. hemisphere locusts threaten food supplies in e. africa still flooding in brahmaputra basin: “we have faced many floods, but we have not seen such huge volumes of flood waters before. our lives have been totally disturbed,” sez the vegetable seller; a fisherman adds: "the flood has come amid lock- down. this has crippled us. how can we go to relief camp amid this coronavirus scare?" waters still rising across southern china, too . . . & in arizona, covid-19 over- whelms hospitals, even as huge fires burn: an area “bigger than washington d.c., san francisco, baltimore, chicago, miami, minneapolis and manhattan combined” meanwhile, closer to home, i see in the paper where the "invasive species foreman" for a landscaping firm sez “the climate in 2025 will be different than 2020, so take that into account when doing yr landscape planning” -- & plan for unpredictability: gardeners shld rethink what they grow and where
