“americans growing
concerned about climate change health risks” -- fear of: heat stroke bodily harm from storms bodily harm from wildfires insect-borne diseases water-borne diseases asthma/lung diseases were in the 30%s 6 yrs ago; now all over 50 (except “severe anxiety,” up from 27 to 44%) i’m not anxious, i’m depressed: abt the 100+ f heat index this afternoon & the 10+ f > normal low temps -- it’s not the highs, it's the “hi lows” that get us & it’s official: it really did hit 100.4 f above the arctic circle for 1st time, at “the pole of cold,” verkhoyansk, siberia. now verkhoyansk has got to find a new nickname . . . (maybe this poem should be about how to drill water wells. (maybe this poem should not mean but be. or mean to screen.) elsewhere: $3.6 billion in flood damage in s. china so far: 2-3x avg. rain; “emergency discharges” from 3 gorges dam -- right into yichang city; millions w/o homes . . . & inundations destroy food, too: >17k acres of rice destroyed in malaysia, drowned in water and mud “some farmers ex- pressed their sadness after seeing their crops which were supposed to be harvested in just a few days’ time damaged by the floods.” meanwhile, state of emerg in puerto rico: drought means tapwater only every other day: so wash yr hands at least once every 48 hrs -- for at least 20 sec. & remember the floods & droughts & locust swarms in e. africa? well, they’re still there. elsewhere: new 24-hr rainfall record for june set in u.k. 1st half of 2020 hottest ever in france w. australia tied its hottest start to winter hottest week ever (ever) in miami but like they say, it’s not the heat, it’s the anxiety
