we’re not the only ones plunged
directly from polar winter into spring: places running 50 f < norm now 20 > it; while texas takes stock: all 254 counties impacted; people still lacking water; losses may exceed hurricane harvey’s ($125 b), the previous record. now, ohio & tenn. valleys getting drenched: 6” in 48 hrs, people stranded, hospital evac’d, water rescues (humans & other animals), sinkholes, 100 roads in w. virginia underwater, 25 m people affected, the whole bit. this is the news from poems. this is really happening, & it is not even the future yet. & squatters are selling the rainforest on facebook marketplace, con- fident the brazilian govt. will wink at it; while in acre province, the rio branco rises 6.5 ft > flood stage, forcing 120k humans to flee for their lives & the louvre is moving their art to higher ground as the seine overflows . . . (i’ve started skipping floods affecting only 3 or 4 figures-worth of persons) record hi feb. temp in pakistan (101 f); too many local broken record to list in hungary, nederland, sweden, poland, slovakia; fires continue burning in e. japan; rivers of hail in streets near johannesburg in kenya, mohammed godhana sez “the tana delta is our breadbasket, as almost every crop can thrive, but weather patterns have drastically changed. the floods are more intense and cover wider areas than it used to. droughts too are more frequent”; plus seawater intrusion, beach erosion; even as locusts spread from kenya into tanzania & moscow times declares “snowpocalypse” has come to russia; in dagestan, they’re digging cows out of the snowdrifts + the usual stuff about the breakdown of the gulf stream, calving icebergs, burnt & flooded forests becoming net greenhouse gas emitters, blah blah. such is the news from poems such is our breaking story, our crawl
